Central Nervous System Tumors
The central nervous system (CNS) is composed of the brain, the spinal cord, and the spinal fluid which coats the brain and spinal column. There are many different types of CNS tumors. Some are cancerous and very likely to grow and spread. These are often called very aggressive or high grade. Other types are less aggressive, often called low grade, and others are noncancerous and are not likely to grow and spread.
Central nervous system tumors tend to be fairly common in children and much more rare in adults. No matter the age, however, surgery is the best treatment option and is important for obtaining diagnostics. The more tumor is resected, the better the prognosis after surgery. We may prescribe radiation or chemotherapy after surgery in the cases of malignant tumors to ensure complete eradication of the tumor.
Several treatment options are available, including Brain Tumor Resection and Biopsy. If you or a loved one has been diagnosed with a CNS tumor, contact us today and schedule a consultation.
